xbox360

Well last nite the Xbox 360 was unveiled on MTV of all places but more importantly you can now see the specs and official pictures Link. The price looks to be around $299 base and on up to 5-600 with bundles, i.e. anything good.

Likes –

Xbox Live silver straight out of box
Wireless Controllers
Connectivity to other devices ( if it pans out)
Possibilities to transform into a media PCish device

Dislikes

Micro transactions – Small one time fees in order to get new characters, decals, levels etc.
Reasons – The ability to put out unfinished games or have secret levels or cheat codes available only as a pay service.

The wait until November to purchase new games/console.

Backwards compatibility is unclear

An interesting note is that Microsoft dodged E3 and has basically went around the standard means of introducing a new console. It will be interesting to see how this affects the other players (Sony, Nintendo) and what it changes for the future of gaming console introductions.

Side note:

It is 4:15 and last check the Time Warner Cable man has not shown up yet for his 8 AM to 5 PM appointment. I am hoping now that he is late so I can get the extra 20 bucks for the on time guarantee.

Well I just finished the first day at work and have started absorbing knowledge like the sponge my brain is. Looking forward to getting my free frosty after work tommorow.

Well this should help me get over my cold. Wendy’s is giving away Frostys to combat the negative press from the finger in chili incident (Link )

Free Junior Frostys with no other purchase required Friday through Sunday. What a great way for Wendy’s to welcome me to town (college town didn’t have a Wendy’s). Enjoy your brain freeze!

Moving In

Well i have spent the past 5 days moving into a new apt. rearranging furniture, scheduling cable appointments which are from 8-5 PM nowadays; I am also fighting a cold. The cold hit its worst point during graduation which happened on a beautiful sunny day and the speaker at baccalaureate was very impressive and received a standing ovation. One of the few standing ovations I have participated in which I felt was absolutely necessary. The graduation speaker was at the exact opposite end of the spectrum. The speaker talked of science and walking in downtown Philly in the most uninspiring awful high school lecture tone. I hope to write more about this when I have my own internet connection and can stop mooching off someone who left their wireless open.

I will be posting more regularly coming this weekend or early next week. Including a review of Dlink wireless PCI cards, and also of linksys wireless PCI cards.

PSP game format cracked

Well I am gearing up for the move into my new apartment and I found this nugget while waiting to leave.

Link

Some “Reverse engineering genius” has been able to rip games from the PSP Universal Media Disc (UMD) and burn it to other formats.

The rip does not allow for pirated games yet but has brought people closer to making freeware or homebrew games.

Good way to start off a otherwise busy and somewhat chilly Thursday.

Tobias S. Buckell Online: Freaking Sweet

My friend Tobias has brought to my attention that Family Guy Creators have a blog up about the show.

On a side note I missed the first new episode of Family Guy so if anyone knows the rerun schedule or has it on tape DVR 8mm miniDV, or etchings on stone tablets depicting key funny scenes let me know.

Graduation and moving

So exams have finally finished and with only one paper left to turn in I am all but graduated well except for graduation practice which takes place in the exact middle of the day when most people are moving out.

…back to posting I will be moving and graduating this weekend so updates may be sparse until I get internet access at the apartment. I believe that we have decided to go with Time Warner for our internet and cable needs. The only downside appears to be the huge price jump after 6 months but I am guessing through the retention department I can get it knocked back down at least somewhat.

I am really getting sick of companies not caring about customers once they get them. It is especially visible in the cable and cell phone industry. The companies offer new great prices only to new customers often not caring at all about their current customers.

O well until the provider’s of high speed internet penetrate the Midwest I have but two choices Roadrunner and SBC Yahoo and apparently the SBC is iffy, slow and also requires a home phone.

Thanks for the patience.
