Music Executives Behaving Badly Pt II

Somebody must have spiked the punch at the last price fixing collusion industry conference. These Music executives are letting it all out these past few weeks. First Doug Morris of Universal Music Group calls iPod owners theives, now Edgar Bronfman an executive at Warner Music Group admits that his children have downloaded music illegally! To top it off he won’t go into the punishment details other than saying,

“I explained to them what I believe is right, that the principle is that stealing music is stealing music. Frankly, right is right and wrong is wrong, particularly when a parent is talking to a child. A bright line around moral responsibility is very important. I can assure you they no longer do that.”

Great, but what did he do to them?

“I think I’ll keep that within the family.”

I wonder if those consequences involve a ruined life and a drained bank account, all for some mediocre music.

I don’t even know where to begin with listing the artist’s which are part of Warner in case you want to show your disdain through your wallet. It looks like the Bare Naked Ladies are about the only music you can buy which is on a label who doesn’t view you as a pirate.

Side note: What’s with calling out the people who buy your music as pirates, the warning labels on CD packaging and at the beginning of a DVD are being viewed by people who already bought the product? All this when I just started purchasing music again.
