Transfer Music To Your LG 8600
My wife recently got he LG 8600 from Verizon Wireless and rather than purchase the Music software bundle from Verizon we ordered a cable off eBay for ~$7 and are using Bitpim and windows media player to sync the music and to load ringers onto the phone.
Get the LG 8600 or LG 8500 Driver - LG USB Driver (Thanks Mick)
Load Music Onto the LG 8600
- Install Any USB drivers which are needed for your cable.
- Connect your phone to the PC.
- Open Windows Media Player.
- Click on the sync tab in Windows Media Player.
- Now on your phone hit MENU->Get It Now->Option 1 Music and Tones->6 Sync Music.
- Shortly the phone should show up under the devices in Windows Media Player.
- Add the songs you want transfered to the sync side of Windows Media Player
- Click Sync in Windows Media Player.
- Enjoy your music
UPDATE:
Alternate Method using only the sd card, via Darlene in the comments.
- Insert the Micro Sd card into your phone and format it.
- Remove the card from the phone and insert into your computer.
- Use WMP to sync the songs you want into one list in the MUSIC folder on your phone
- Enjoy the Tunes
- These steps need followed exactly or it won’t work.
Transferring Ringers etc with Bitpim:
- Open Bitpim
- Choose Edit -> Preferences
- Detect Phone, the LG 8600 is supported in the 0.9.10 release.
- Click on the ringtone category and then either drag and drop any un-DRMed mp3 into the field.
- Bitpim will prompt you to convert the file I suggest you choose 96 for the bitrate.
- After the conversion you can clip the song to the 30 second clip you want to use for the ringer.
- Click on the Send Data to Phone icon near the top of the Bitpim screen.
You can also use Bitpim to backup or transfer your contacts to the phone as well as many other cool features. If you need help leave a comment and I will do my best.
Alternate Ringtone Method via Nikki in comments
Kind of along the same lines, there’s a REALLY easy way to get homemade ringtones onto your phone even without BitPim or the USB cable. This method creates really high quality ringtones that, in my experience, seem to be even better sounding than the ones you can buy from Verizon — and the selection is only limited to your imagination and the size of your music collection!
1. Create a .mp3 ringtone* on your computer.
2. Rename it to a .qcp file.
3. Send the .qcp file as an attachment in an email to YOURPHONENUMBER@vzwpix.com
3. Open the pix message; under “Options”, select “Save as ringtone”.
=D
*I use the free version of WavePad (http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html) to make my ringtones, basically just copying and pasting sections of songs into new files and saving them as new .mp3’s. To keep the file size under 300kb, I make them about 30 seconds long and save them at a constant bitrate of 80 kbps (this option pops up after you save the file as a .mp3).

I made a few ringtones using wavepad or whatever it was called (excuse any issues with my typing, I was out for a celebreationa nd had more then enough to drink) and tried to email them to myself one by one using the method mentioned above by Nikki:
email them to YOURPHONENUMBER@vzwpix.com
I tried my number both with andwithout the area code and it didn’t work. The messages were returned to my email address as undeliverable, an issue like the receipient not existing or something like that.
Does this method even work in Canada?
Is there a way I can transfer ringtones using the microSD and not the usb wires (as I don’t have those)??
Any help is appreciated.
I tried the advice you gave on transferring music onto a Mirco SD card and it doesn’t seem to work. Do you have any other advice?
I got the Alltel AX8600 Phone and I just got my USB cable today off the internet. I tried using BITPIM but it wont seem to detect my phone either way I do it; manual or auto.. Can someone give me the rundown on how to set it up to reconize my phone? THanks.

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to transfer music via bluetooth? I understand it is possible and I have done it before. However, when I browse my phone via bluetooth, there are only six directories available : All except MyMusic and SDMusic. I ask this because I can’t utilize my phones music capability without that necessary folder. I can load my songs onto MySounds, but that is it. Anyone with info or if I just need the USB or SD reader would be greatly appreciated.
Michael » I “think” you need a usb or sd card reader.
Yeah I know, mine got stuck in my rectal canal.
I have an Alltel LGAX8600. I have been using a micro SD card since I bought the thing and use the mp3 player quite often. Yesterday I went to access my mp3 player (with the memory card in the phone) and it started initializing the process but than my phone shut off and restarted. The other two phones I have also did the same thing. I reformatted the the micro SD card but am still having the same problem. Do you know of any one who has had this problem? Do you think there is a defect in the phone?
Telus branded LG 8600 flip ka ka phone 1/2 way from my pocket to the garbage and flying.

I’m having some issues with sending a file to my phone. I have a 250kb file qcp that i email to mynumber@vzwpix.com. When I open the message, it plays the first few seconds (maybe three) of the 30 seconds and then displays any text of the message (if any). If I select ‘Save as ringtone’ or ‘Save Sound’ it comes back with message ‘No Sound.’ As it thinks it is a picture file I tried saving in that format on a whim, but came back with ‘No Picture.’
I have updated Verizon VX8600’s firmware via *228 in the last 24 hours.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
thanks,
bobby

Its at the top of the article.
This is a response to a really old post from Hal but it’ll probably still be relevant for people having issues with the MP3 player. I’ve found that if there are any apostrophes in either the filename or the mp3 file’s metadata, the phone won’t recognize the song. I use a utility called AudioShell Tag Editor to strip out the apostrophes and everything works fine after that.
Could anyone tell me where i can find a guide or diagram to open the phones shell “LG 8600″ I broke my screen and i have a another broken phone of the same type id like to interchange the screens. thanks!
I have a VX8500 and when I got it, I figured out if you put the SD card in the phone then the PC it formats it and makes your main 4 folders. I was able to drag music straight to the memory card. I then installed BitPim, and added custom ringers. Once I did this, I can no longer copy music from folder to folder.. it keeps saying its write protected and I cant seem to unlock them.. even through folder properties. Any Ideas?
Ok So I FEEL LIKE A HUGE KNOB! I was/am getting an exception error when I try to get phone info to and read this entire thread ^_^ but did anyone try clicking on “filesystem” anyway and exploring the folders… HAHAHA It works fine. . .

u guys made my day!!!
So, I’m the first to admit I’m not very smart when it comes to this stuff, so please bear with me. We just got one of the LG 8550 and bought one of the USB cables that goes with it. When I plug up the cable it says that it didn’t install successfully and that the “device” is unplugged. What in the world does that mean and does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the problem? I would appreciate any input!
Simon, the phone may not support memory bigger than certain GB. You better check the manual.
I have a motorola 385 and would like to record my own ringtone from a CD. Is there any way to do that? I had the earlier verison of this phone and had no problem using a song I recorded on my phone as a ringtone but I can’t seem to get that same option on this motorola 385. Any suggestions. The song shows as recorded but it does not transfer it to a ringtone.
I hope this makes sense. The ringtone is a song my dad sang to me when I was little.
thanks,
ok here’s my problem. I just downloaded some ringtones, and i put them on my miniSD card. But in my cellphone, i don’t even see them in my external memory fonction/sounds. Anyone got some tips for me?

Has anyone figured out the Telus block for the 8600 yet? I’m going crazy trying to get my phone connected to bitpim. Telus is no help whatsoever. There are alot of duh’s and uhh’s and I don’t know’s.
Thank-You for posting this..! Although I am not with Verison, I am with Telus which is CDMA as well.. I downloaded Bitpim and got a few things ready to put on my phone, however everytime I try to add it to my phone it says error.. I can see it connecting to my phone as a bunch of numbers go off on my phone, but it will not sync… do you (or does anyone) know how to make it work!?! Pleaaase help!!

Kim
Darlene / Josh….your instructions worked like a charm !!! Using WMP to sync my MP3s to the “my_music folder on my LG8600 phone is pure genius.
Thank-you thank-you thank-you !

any advice?
I have an LG 8600 but about to get an Iphone. I do NOT want to type in 275 contacts. I looked into Bitpim, seemed OK. Got a data cable for the 8600, but can NOT get the Mac to recognize it.
On the PC thanks to The link above with the correct LG USB driver, it worked.
But what about the Mac, is there an equivalent driver I need to get? If so where?
Once I get the phone recognized, how to I export contacts.? On the PC side I tried an export to vcf, but it only would select one contact. I wrote it to a csv file but again how do I get that to the Mac so I can then put the Iphone.
HELP….
I HAVE THE LG CHOCOLATE .HOW DO YOU FORMAT SD CARD IN THE PHONE????
Put the card in your phone, go to the music player and try to play. It should fail to play but it should add the folders you need to it.
Can anyone tell me how big of a micro sd card can be used with the Lg 8600? I have an 8GB and cannot seem to get any music to play on my phone whatsoever. HELP
Hi, I own an LG 8600. I just got it and today bought a 4GB micro SD card for it. So I first put music on it and put it in the phone, to see if it would worked, and it didn’t recognize the music. Then I saw that I could format the card, and, after erasing everything on it, tried to format it, and it said that it failed. I also tried playing music in the music player as you said, but that didn’t do anything.
I was thinking that the phone only has a limit of 2GB or something else. Could you help me?
To format the micro SD card.
- go to music & Media
- press 6 to select My Albums
- press 5 to select External Memory
- select options
- select format
- enter your phone last 4 number as password.
Are you able to put a SD card into a LG 800 Chocolate phone???
