How to make your WM device look like an iPhone

Here’s to hoping I don’t get a letter from the Apple Legal Team.

These directions should allow you to have a today screen similar to the iPhone. I found Wisbar Advance to be helpful in displaying all kinds of information. The process is easy and only the tweaking at the end takes a little trial and error.

It will work on Windows Mobile 5 and 2003

1. Download and install Wisbar Advance (7 day free trial) 9.99 retail

2. Download Wisbar Advance Desktop (7 day free trial) 9.99 retail

3. Download OSX.Rar from the Lakeridge forums. Its at the bottom of the linked post.

4. Unzip OSX.rar to your desktop.

5. Plug in your i730 and choose Explore

6. Navigate to the Main Directory and Open the folder called ‘Themes\Desktop’
The contents of this folder should contain various other folders portrait and landscape common images etc.

7. Copy the Entire OSX folder into the Themes\desktop location

8. If you don’t currently have WIsbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop running soft reset your PPC.

9. On Your PPC Choose Start-> Settings-> Personal Settings-> Theme Manager. Choose Desktop Theme and click on osx in the list.

10. The next part involves your computer. Get the Black Panther Theme.

11. Copy the Wisbar Theme to your installation directory of Wisbar Advance, in the Theme Folder.

12. Go to the Wisbar Advance Settings and choose Black Panther as your theme.

You may need to change to an allblack today theme but I am not sure if it was necessary for me. If you need it I will look for the file.

Now you need to customize the shortcuts and links in Wisbar Advance Desktop. For help with this Use the included Manual, or ask questions here.

If you have any questions please leave them in the comments.

Road and Track for mobile device

I just found this site today, Perooz.com which has pre-formatted mobile versions of several popular magazines. These are all FREE and don’t require a special program to use. They are simply pictures.

Including:
FHM
Maxim
Stuff
GQ
Car and Driver
Road and Track
etc

They also have movie trailers available for download.

I found that choosing any device which sports a 320×240 screen gave me good results. To see the resolution simply look at the link location before you click. The Zune and iPod links appear to work well.

For Example “http://www.perooz.com/content/320/GQ-January_2007.zip”

I use XNveiw on my PDA to read them.

Microsoft is running a new website which features Demetri Martin and his comedy stylings. He is in some web episodes to bring clearification to his life, which apparently Windows Vista will do. You can check out the embedded episode below. It is part four of a 8? part series. I highly recommend checking out the main site with his illustrated self and ramblings. Click on thoughts and have fun.

GTD in Outlook Its As Simple AS J-E-L-L-O

Jello DashboardOver the past year I have been trying to get into a Getting Things Done mindset, however I have yet to even read the book due to a lack of time.  Currently I am the busiest I have been in my life which reinforces the need for a system to manage my life.  The most recent step I have taken is to install an outlook plugin called Jello.  The plugin takes the place of your homepage in outlook and provides an easy way to assign emails to an action as well as organize projects.  I am still working my way through the best way to use it but needless to say you don’t need to know GTD to gain productivity from this plugin.  After the “install” I highly recommend that you check out the how to documentation (even though I haven’t read the whole thing yet).

Coincidences In Polls?

Bush Iraq Strategy

Earlier today Tobias, pointed out a study in which 25% of Americans believe the world will end this year. Later I found a link to an MSNBC poll about the approval for President Bush’s new “strategy” for Iraq. The Ipsos poll had an error rate of +-3% and the MSNBC poll had no stated error rate and is not a “scientific poll” but the similar percentages struck me as interesting. Roughly a quarter of the sample believes the world will end this year, and in another poll roughly 25% (ok ok 30%) thinks Bush’s new plan is a good idea.

Any thoughts?

*I should point out that I DO know that  correlation does not equal causation.

Castel Crashers Release

Yesterday I received an issue of Stuff magazine and the game section highlighted Castle Crashers. Even more interesting the magazine instructed me to go download it forthwith. This has lead me to believe that Castle Crashers will be on Live Arcade sometime in January or February further draining my MS point balance. I will post a pic of the article after work this evening.

Great Info For Renters

apartment iconDumb Little Man has picked up on an article from MSNBC.com about 15 common renter’s rights. The list includes a lot of useful info my highlights are below.

  • Many states limit the amount landlords can charge for security deposits. (See this page on Nolo.com to find out if yours is one of them.)
  • A landlord should make necessary repairs and perform maintenance tasks in a timely fashion, or include a provision in the lease stating that tenants can order repairs and deduct the cost from rent.
  • If a landlord has violated important terms related to health, safety, or necessary repairs, you might have a legal right to break your lease.
  • ost states require landlords to return refundable portions of a security deposit within 14 to 30 days after the tenant has vacated the premises, even in the case of eviction.
  • Damage or security deposits are not deductible for “normal wear and tear.” Some states require that a landlord give an itemized report of any deductions.

The Rest are also well worth your time.

One other piece of advice I have is to see if your landlord partners with a bond company for a deposit. We paid a $89 non refundable fee which bonded our apartment rather than handing over $600 for the apartment owner to make money on.

MSNBC includes some other relevant info on renting.

How to Renew Your lease at the same rate

We will be renewing in May/June so I will keep you up to date on how that goes from a financial point.
