Inside the Griffin Powerdock for Sansa

Griffin Technology produces a dock for the Sansa e200, c100 and c 200 series of mp3 players called the Powerdock for Sansa. This dock provides a charger and a true line out for the Sansa e200 series. This is to my knowledge the only product which enables a true line out function for the Sansa MP3 players. A true line out is one which is not affected by the device volume. This is very handy for hooking your Sansa into a car stereo system or a home theatre system, it enables a normal volume and a cleaner signal (according to some).

I had originally purchased the Powerdock for Sansa at Best Buy to modify for in car use. I ended up returning the dock after taking pictures to attempt to determine the pins which are connected to the line out and power function. I hope to use these pictures at some point in the future to make my own Sansa Charger with a line out, something which no current manufacturer makes for the Sansa. If I can put something together I will definitely share, however I am putting up these pictures in hopes that others will try the same thing and in the end produce a “best of” product.

ToughBook Takes A Bullet for A Soldier

Toughbook BulletholeA story about a Panasonic Toughbook rolled into my Google Reader today via Boing Boing, however when I went to check otu the article on Boing Boing it was gone, I decided to follow the link to the original story on MobileMag.com but it had disappeared as well.  It seems really odd that both would go down especially since Boing Boing isn’t known for removing material.

Near as I can tell from Boing Boing’s summary, a soldier in the 82nd Airborne was shot while on duty but thankfully his laptop which he carried everywhere took the bullet for him.

This shotfromt eh Iraq war reminds me of a picture I took in Vietnam, at the War Remnants Museum of a Camera that took a bullet for a journalist in the Vietnam war.

The Devil Wears a Nametag, and it Reads “Sallie Mae”

Over a year ago my wife and I decided to consolidate our federal loans in order to get a lower interest rate. The initial filing went well but then in the midst of our consolidation 3 of my wife’s federal loans were sold to Sallie Mae, who unfortunately also has my wife’s private loans.

This sale of our loans resulted in 3 loans not being included in the consolidation. We then filed a form to add on to our loan consolidation. This paper was filed OVER a year ago. Sallie Mae, refuses to note the receipt of several faxes and postal deliveries. In order to get these loans consolidated I have decided to launch new site, Sallie Mae’s Incompetence.

The site is a collection of my contacts with Sallie Mae, AES (my consolidating company), my congressman, and the state attorney general. I have also covered general student loan info as well as the many missteps and incompetence of Sallie Mae.

Please feel free to check out the site and check back often for more updates and the status of our loan consolidations. I would also appreciate it if you would share this with people you know who have the power to do anything about this situation. I would also recommend that you advise anyone you know to avoid Sallie Mae as a loan company.

Check out this awesome dishmaker, that can form dishes to your needs and store them as a flat disc when you are done with them. If they can shrink it down and add in a cleaning stage this thing could really take off.

Recipe EULA Madness

Top Secret Recipes has the longest EULA I have seen in quite some time and is definitely the longest and only EULA I have seen on a recipe sharing site. A snippet,

Material from www.topsecretrecipes.com may not be copied or distributed, or republished, uploaded, posted, or transmitted in any way, without the prior written consent of Top Secret Recipes®, Inc. EXCEPT: you may print copies of the material for your personal, non-commercial home use only, provided you do not delete or change any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices. Modification or use of the materials for any other purpose violates Top Secret Recipes®, intellectual property rights. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT VIOLATING THESE RIGHTS, YOUR ACCESS TO TSR WILL BE TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY WITH NO REFUNDS. The material in this site is provided for lawful purposes only. If you download content from this site, the content, including all files, images, and graphics are deemed to be licensed to you by Top Secret Recipes®, Inc. Neither title nor intellectual property rights are transferred to you, but remain with Top Secret Recipes, Inc., who owns full and complete title. You may not resell, de-compile, reverse engineer, disassemble, or otherwise convert the content to a human perceivable form.

It contains 1,087 words which is roughly 1/6 the size of the EULA for Microsoft’s Windows Vista(pdf) (html).

Seems like overkill for a recipe for a site selling clones of someone elses materials, if you need restaurant recipes try copykat.com.

Extreme Money Saving: Rafting 101

Some fellow from Canada decided to try and raft into the US to save money paying his credit card bill. The charge he was tyring to avoid is levied by his card issuer for mailing a payment from Canada.

He is facing charges of illegally trying to enter the U.S. after he tried to cross a river on a rubber raft, in the middle of the night, in extremely cold temperatures. He says he was just trying to pay his credit card bill in person, because he gets charged an $85 fee if he mails the payment from Canada to the U.S.

The individual rafted to the US rather than taking a nearby bridge due to a past legal dispute with Canada. This man is extremely frugal!

This reminds me of the insane fees many card issuers charge card holders for using thier cards outside the US as previously covered on Boing Boing - Foreign Transaction Fee.
