Merry Mixmas 2007

DJ Riko who is behind such internet hits as Whistler’s Delight has released the sixth of his annual Christmas Mash up collections. Mixmas 2007 is available for download from various source and in enough audio qualities to fit anyone’s needs. This mix by DJ Riko is something I look forward to each year even though it leads to some odd looks from co workers and friends who think I have the strangest taste in Christmas music.

This Year’s mix is described as:

It features tunes created decades ago and tunes
created days ago. It has songs ranging from sincere to
silly to sublime, covering many different musical
styles and coming from many locations around the
world.

Some of my favorite DJ Riko mixes include, Whistler’s Delight, Stand Up and Ring my Doorbell and For Those About to Clown. These individual tracks are also available as a free download at DJRiko.com

How To Respond To Blogger Criticism

According to Marshall Kirkpatrick you Fix it!

I had an opportunity to comment today on the question of how a company ought to respond to bloggers who have damaged their reputation. Below are my thoughts. I’d love to read yours, too.

The best thing that companies can do in response to bloggers who have done their reputation harm is to take the bloggers’ complaints as seriously as is appropriate. Readers will determine the validity of blogger criticism for themselves, but if the criticism is valid then there’s no hiding from it any more.

Life Advice from George Lucas

George Lucas with Trooper

It is always interesting to hear advice from those who have “made it” in the world if only to pick up a nugget of practical information that you can piece together to form your own success. Amanda from Young and Broke had the opportunity to hear George Lucas speak at an Economic Club of Chicago Dinner Meeting recently and enjoyed a presentation as well as gained some insight into Lucas’ drive and how he left the path carved out before him to create a great business.

Well, according to Lucas, by simply following his passion. His father wanted him to go into the family business, but he knew it wasn’t for him. He enrolled at USC in the school of cinematography, and never looked back. At multiple points in his career he has put up his own money to finance his projects, despite the huge risk that posed and potential to bankrupt him. Why? Because it was never about the money for him. He felt he had to do these certain things - had to pursue them because he was so passionate about the work. Obviously, the risk paid off.

What I take away from this is that sometimes you need to be the one to take the risk and invest in yourself. Being successful doesn’t come from always asking others to believe in you and invest in your ideas and plans, it takes initiative and drive.

Box.net Provides Free Fax Service

Efax on Box.net

Box.net provider of online storage is now offering free fax service through your Box.net account.  The fax service is provided through eFax.com, a provider of email fax services.  Unlike many offers of free faxing you may come across online this is a truly free service.  This partnership is made possible by the Open Box Services feature provided by Box.net and is one of many services available on Box.net to maximize usefulness of your files.

Faxing through Box.net is fairly straightforward, you only need an account which includes 1 GB of free storage  and a scanner or in some cases just a document.  The eFax service does not provide a way to receive faxes but if you are like me, the extent of your faxing needs are tied to faxing information to companies who haven’t quite accepted the use of email and attachments in that you send more than you receive.

After you have the file on your PC through scanning, creating a pdf or saving a Microsoft Office file in the 97-03 format you simply need to upload the file to your box online.  Once the file is online clicking the drop down arrow on the file will give you an option to send with eFax. Bam you’ve just sent a fax for free!  If you are often sending faxes to various companies this service could be a great way to save money on your monthly budget and add some convenience to the process. I plan on using the service frequently as I deal with Student Loan companies and car dealerships which seem to be wary of this newfangled email fad.  I am estimating that this service should save me between $20 and $50 over the course of the next year for faxes.

Xbox Live Arcade Greatest Hits And Incoming

XBLA SaleLots of buzz happening now with the Xbox 360 and the XBLA as Christmas nears.  Most notably the release of the Xbox Live Arcade “Hits” which consists of a collection of XBLA games which have seen a price reduction just in time for holiday point binging.  The selection includes games which have been on the market for a few months at least and includes such notable games as; Bankshot Billiards 2 and Lumines Live! for 800 MS points as well as; Marble Blast Ultra, Small Arms and Zuma Deluxe for 400 MS Points.  One of these titles should easily appeal to someone in your household this holiday season.

I already own Small Arms and Marble Blast Ultra,  and Bankshot Billiards as well as Zuma Deluxe look to be ripe for the purchasing this holiday season.

Microsoft also let loose the planned XBLA releases for December and January which includes a big batch of great games!  Some of the most noticeable titles are Brain Challenge, GripShift, N+, and Rez HD!  These additions to the XBLA lineup will do nothing but help the service and continue to hurt the wallets of gamers.
