It’s that time of year when cellular contracts are coming to an end and new phones are leaking to the internet. The phone which will replace my trusty Samsung SCHi730 is the Samsung SCH i760. The Samsung SCH i760 is expected to be released late June or Early July (confirmed as much as possible by various other sources as well) and based on past pda/phone prices will likely debut for around $500 (*though some insiders estimate a lower $299 with contract price) with a two year contract on Verizon Wireless. The phone will run Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6 professional.

Verizon’s sales people told me tonight that the SCH i760 & the XV6800 will both be out November 2007. The store has a non working SCH i760 to check out size and all.

That’s amazing. I have contacted Verizon several times in stores and the customer service center and cannot find an associate that will tell me anything. I can’t believe that you guys have actually seen even a non-working one at this point.

I have had mine for almost a month now. I just love it. I really do not have a complaint. I had the i730 and this device just smokes it. Have Garmin and TomTom installed it just chugs along. There is a site cellularaccesories that has samsung branded car and home chargers for $4.95. I just ordered a couple of charge/sync usb from pocketsolutions. The included usb cable just syncs no charging. Just a bogus marketing plan to have you by chargers. Makes tethering rather difficult when you have to charge with ac/dc source. Good there is a phone that uses same plug design. I think it is ZX20 but do not quote me. The accesories are starting to trickle out. Sure has been nice to be one of the lucky 80 that got the phone. I really turn heads when I walk into a Verizon store and ask for accesories.

Talked to *611 customer service today and was told “yes they have the phone in stock, but it will not be sold until middle November. :(

  • 15 CinKidCa // Oct 19, 2007 at 6:30 pm

Ordered mine this am. Got all the discounts so only got dinged $107. Cannot wait as I’m suffering with my XV6600 now.

  • 16 Arianamanx // Oct 20, 2007 at 8:42 pm

The phone is now available online at VZW.com but you have to search for it. Retail price is $399 they offer a $100.00 online rebate and a $50.00 mail in rebate. Comes with travel charger, 2 batteries, stylus, companion disc VZaccess disc, and a couple other accessories, optional accessories range from $16.99 to $119.99.

  • 17 Don // Oct 24, 2007 at 2:13 pm

Mine came today. Ordered it yesterday. Taking my i730 (replaced 9 times in 2 years) to the gun range for some target practice.

While teaching a radiologist today heard his phone ring and noticed the cool look, so asked him about it. He gave me a demo of teh new i760. Most impressive, to say the least. He bout it this past Sat, Oct 20. Paid $200 wwith 2 yr contract. There you go. Here’s final proof! For real!

Does the Windows Mobile 6 web browser let you connect to any ARBITRARY website, or only to ones specially formatted for teeny phone screens?

If the former, does the software automatically wrap to the small screen size, or do you have to scroll horizontally for every line?

  • 20 Josh // Oct 30, 2007 at 3:24 pm

Harvey, You can go to any, ones formated for mobile viewing work best. Opera Mobile Browser does a much better job of rendering regular size pages for the smaller screen.

  • 21 joan // Nov 18, 2007 at 1:12 pm

Does anyone know if a charging usb cable from another phone/accessory will charge this phone? Is it the cable or the phone that matters?

  • 22 Josh // Nov 18, 2007 at 4:31 pm

    joan,

you can purchase a charging USB cable from several sources. I picked one up on ebay. macMedia and PPCtechs should have one.

You need one which works with the Samsung i760.

The connector on the 760 is shared with only a few phones.

  • 23 joan // Nov 21, 2007 at 1:07 pm

Josh, di d you get yours yet? The only ones I am finding work on the Nextel i760.Is there a definitive part number you can send me?

  • 24 Andy // Nov 25, 2007 at 4:38 pm

So what is the full retail price?

  • 25 Josh // Nov 27, 2007 at 8:43 am

    Full retail should be $519.

  • 26 J // Feb 29, 2008 at 11:28 pm

VerizonW. sucks…their 22 mo wait upgrade policy has me POd. I’m struggling with a low end phone that I had to get in a rush after dropping my i730 in H2O last year. I need a i760 to facilitate business etc, but can’t splurge on the PPC at full retail >$550… Most of my friends and relatives are verizon users so I’m screwed! Does anybody have a reasonable solution to this problem… where to get the i760 least expensively?

  • 27 George // Mar 14, 2008 at 10:42 am

I gave up on getting a second wall charger for my Samsung i760… and got a car charger, then went to radio shack, and got a wall-to-car 12v adapter!

Verizon Wireless never has those in stock.

  • 28 Special Educator // Apr 5, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Verizon 22 month upgrade was wavied when i called the loyalty department and explained to them the 400 dollar treo i purchased two years ago finally crashed. I had one year left on my upgrade and as a loyal customer with a perfect payment history for over ten years, they waived the last year and honored the 2 year promotion. I have done this twice in the past 5 years.

There is also a hack for a 4 gig sdhc micro card i am using.

    http://www.pirate.org has great apps.

i love this phone… only complaint is no gps and battery dies quickly.

    My newest toy…

    http://www.slingbox.com

live tv anywhere in the world on my phone. i watch sportscentter on the way to work! Just plug into charger. Also, search for auto, plug and usb synch charger.

  • 31 Josh // Oct 1, 2008 at 3:10 pm

@Lourdes: You need to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 or install the SD card hack from pdaPhonehome.com.
