Movehack: Arrange your stuff

Last week Lifehacker ran a story on moving to a new apartment just in time for our move which we are currently in the middle of.

In the past we have had to work through fitting our furniture into a small room and having family members and friends all sharing their opinions on where the different pieces of furniture should go. This creates chaos and that is my number one enemy during a move. This move I used scrap paper to map out the proportions and taped together versions of our furniture. This could have been accomplished with scale cutouts and a piece of grip paper but having full size replicates of our furniture in the actual apartment made realizing how furniture fits into not only the room but the flow of our daily activities. With the setup my wife was able to plot out I can easily make my way from the kitchen to the patio which was a problem at our old apartment. This is very exciting due to our ability to own a grill at the new apartment. The paper can also stay in place for an easy way to show your great friends and family where to put your stuff.

Check out some pictures of our living room layout using the paper placement moving method.
