Book Trailer Contest at TobiasBuckell.com
Tobias Buckell, author of Crystal Rain and Ragamuffin is currently holding a contest to find music for the trailer promoting his new novel Sly Mongoose. He shares his recommendation for listening as,
My dream layover track would be the first 1.39 of Trent Razner of Nine Inch Nails “Just Like You Imagined” (if you have it then just play that along with this video), or even the instrumental version of “Hyperpower” that he has (and you can download for free) at remix.nin.com.
The winner of the sound contest gets a $50 Amazon gift card and an early copy of Sly Mongoose!
I embedded the video below
My entries are from Derek K. Miller’s Penmachine album which features podsafe music. All of these tracks work well when played from the beginning. I am extremely partial to Fresh Snow in the Valley, Deep Cycle Discharge, Cold Cloth and an Icepack, and The Burning Moon. They are available for download from the Penmachine demos page.
More information on the contest. Get crack’n it looks like the contest is already drawing several entries.
Movies…The Beginings of Great Flicks
This morning several movies shared their beginings with the world. I am planning on seeing all of them. Unfortunately I Am Legend’s opening scene is stuck in Yahoo Movies and Cloverfield’s first 5 minutes are embeddable in about anything other than WordPress or plain html (good job guys). The Dark Knight’s opening minutes are in HD so I’ll forgive the creators for not having a embeddable version.

Opening Scene of I Am Legend – Yahoo Movies
Plan to see before 12/31/07

First 5 Minutes of Cloverfield – Slashfilm
Additional Interview with director
Plan to see opening weekend

First 2 Minutes of Dark Knight – A Taste for Theatrical
Plan to see within 2 weeks of opening
TechFellas: If Goodfellas Were In IT

19th & Wilson, an independent film company from Virginia have created several IT related spoofs of Martin Scorsese films including; The Department and TechFellas. The team recently caught up with Scorsese as he was honored at the Kennedy Center and presented him with copies of the parodies. Unlike many rights holders Scorsese was thrilled with the parodies and the gesture exclaiming, “This is hilarious!”.
Below you will see TechFellas on Youtube and the trailer for The Department. Both are also available on DVD for $10 each.
TechFellas
The Department Trailer
I found both of these hilarious and I’ll have to remember them when the local theatre has it’s next independent film festival, which I should be assisting with.
Rainn Wilson on WIRED Science
Rainn Wilson aka Dwight has a hilarious appearance on WIRED Science which airs on PBS. Judging form this i may have to set the DVR up to grab a few episodes. Did you hear that…that was my wife groaning, don’t be concerned this happens with any of the programs I choose to watch. I found the clip to be hilarious for all of the Dwight from the Office idiosyncrasies which creep in.

Halo 3 Forge: Rube Goldberg Suicide Machine

TV Execs: Digital Is/Isn’t Making us Money
In case you can’t tell I am sick of the crap the Networks are trying to sell about the internet being promotional and without money earning potential.
I fail to understand how the executives and networks as a whole continue to deny that the magic of shows starts with the writers. Yes actors are talented but where do they gain their direction and lines from? The scripts people! I used to think the infinite monkey theorem was humorous but all it does is degrade what writers create. I also read last nite that unfortunately the final season of The Shield has also been interrupted by the network’s continued denial of fact and outright greed, which is going to annoy me more than the possibility of LOST ending early. I find it slightly humorous that the networks try to mount a campaign against the writers which is not based on truth in today’s age.. I think it illustrates just how they don’t grasp the reach of the blogosphere its ability to inform more consumers about the reasons behind the strike through, gulp, digital methods.
